In regards to recovery and healthy eating.
I made this point earlier but I think it should be re-iterated.
If you are recovering and engaging in healthy eating/eating clean/exercising, then be warned: this is not the end. You are most likely not yet recovered.
I am all for using healthy eating as a method to restore weight in a way that is less terrifying than just eating whatever. I am all for using it as a step forward. I am all for engaging in it whilst you help to recover your mind and alter the bad thoughts and feelings that come with an ED. BUT if you:
- Weigh your food
- Count calories
- Only eat certain foods and cut out other foods because they are “unhealthy”
- Feel guilty and negative about yourself if you do not exercise
- Obsessively weigh yourself
- Feel guilty before, during, or after eating “unhealthy foods”
- Feel negatively about the way you look
then you are still engaging in ED behaviours and still have a long way to go.
Eating healthy and clean and exercising instead of restricting or binging or purging is great, but it is still not normal and not healthy if you are still experiencing any of the above symptoms. You are just trading in one set of rules for another, and that is still the ED controlling you. You need to recognise this and realise that you are still not relaxed around food, still not mentally healthy, still not happy, and still not leading a normal life.
You are not yet recovered, but you are on your way there.
Keep on going, and challenge ANY strict set of rules, and any negative behaviours, thoughts, and feelings.
Keep fighting, do not give up. You deserve to be happy.
