Request ~ Do people ever tell you that you “don’t have to eat chocolate cake” to recover?
veggiewhoppernomayo asked: Do people ever tell you that you “don’t have to eat chocolate cake” to recover? I always think, “But I MISS those days. Tell me I have to.”
When I was sick, all I could think of was the day I could recover and eat my favourite foods again (which included chocolate cake)! I craved sweet foods so much but could never bring myself to eat them; they weren’t ‘safe’. During the worst of my ED everyone would say ‘I don’t care what you eat, we just want you to eat something’. I wasn’t eating full foods groups and I guess not eating chocolate cake wasn’t a big deal because everyone was just glad when I ate something.
In recovery everyone’s views changed slightly, including mine.
My Parents told me to eat everything in moderation. They said I didn’t have to eat unhealthy foods but encouraged me to every now and then.
My close friends kept telling me that I shouldn’t eat chocolate cake because it was unhealthy!
My dietitian practically threw sweets at me and practically ordered me to eat unhealthy foods twice a day!
But nothing these people said really mattered! It’s what we think is best for ourselves. I like chocolate cake and it makes ME happy. I know that everything is good in moderation INCLUDING chocolate cake! If I don’t get my junk food fix… I get angry! Hahaha. So seriously EAT THE DAMN CHOCOLATE CAKE! Because it’s good for your body and your mind, you don’t want to restrict and then eat the whole thing later down the track! If you miss the days where you ate what you want then go back to them because I know for a fact even in recovery, I was never fully satisfied until I let myself eat chocolate cake again :)
I hoped this helped xxx
