I DISAGREE.
Yes. Buffy’s calling was handed to her, and maybe all slayers are naturally physically fit. But didn’t she train every day to stay in shape? Wasn’t she something special - didn’t she kill the Master, pass the Council’s test? When the other slayers couldn’t?
Buffy is the Slayer, and, yes, she didn’t earn it, work for it. But what kind of a slayer, that’s what Buffy worked for all by herself. She isn’t mentally strong, a hero, and capable of doing things the others can’t because she’s the Slayer. It’s because she’s Buffy. She’s a hero, and that hero she built herself, a slayer or no slayer.

If you ask me, they’re just a bunch of jealous, ungrateful asses. And I’m saying this about some of my favorite characters. But they were horrible to Buffy in this scene. Who cares if she never worked for the slayers powers? She worked to save the world, to save all their lives time after time, and was miserable through the majority of it. She didn’t want this. She didn’t want these powers, this responsibility. But she had it, and she used it well. She gave up so much to be this hero that she was expected to be. As Spike said later in the episode, she DIED for these people. TWICE. And then they turn around and say that she was LUCKY to have this gift handed to her?! It’s a curse. It’s the reason why the majority of the previous slayers have died young.
I’m never gonna be okay with this scene. These people turned on the person who has worked so hard to keep them alive, keep them safe. It’s the one point in the series where I’m like, “God, just kill them all. After all, they don’t want Buffy’s help. See how they fair without her.”
Then, of course, she shows up and saves all of them AGAIN…

“I’m never gonna be okay with this scene. ” And so say all of us!!! She didn’t work for it? When didn’t she? She put her duties above her personal feelings and above her own life on multiple occasions. I love these guys, but in this scene, I was disgusted by them. (punkkimono)
