Please could somebody explain to me why people post pictures of self-harm.

This is not said with sarcasm. I genuinely would like to understand because I don’t self harm and I don’t know how it feels and why so many people who self harm seem to post those pictures.

In a way, it seems like thinspo for people with EDs, but I can understand that more easily (although I strongly disagree with it) because I know it is supposed to motivate them to lose weight and they think that will make things better. But I don’t get why people would want to look at self harm scars because I don’t understand what purpose it serves. To me, this (and thinspo) looks sad and also kind of insulting in that it’s almost like glamorizing and trivialising something that is a serious problem.

But I am not in a good position to judge without hearing the perspectives of people who actually have this issue. Please help me understand.

(I have to include the following question mark so you can respond)?
